Space Battleship Yamato 2199 is a remake of an old anime of the same name. Unlike typical Mecha anime like Gundam, Yamato is more "realistic" although it still features crazy tech like wrapping in space and huge ass space ships. what makes the show so good is the story and characters. The space ship Yamato goes on a long ass journey to "Iskandar" to bring the technology necessary to save Earth, which has been destroyed by the enemy aliens Gamilas. Throughout the 26 episodes the characters have to constantly fight back against the aliens Gamilas while keeping on to make it toward Iskandar. There is no single "main" hero character, the whole crew is important with many characters getting good screen time, like Kodai, Sanada and Mori and the smaller ones like Akira Yamamoto the sexy tomboy. Overall, the anime has great story, interesting characters, a nice love/romance between Kodai and Yuki. The ending was great as well, the "Hitler" leader of the Gamilas gets killed/overthrown and Earth and Gamilas become allies. It's weird how Iskander is an empty planet with basically everyone dead except for the Queen and her sisters. That's the only thing I disliked, how little developed the Iskander story/planet is especially how center to the story they are.
